Well it’s been a while since I have written but not a whole lot to say, I went to the Dickson TN fiber festival I did a fair amount of shopping, things that I can remember that I bought of the top of my head. I picked up my order from Sandy’s Palate-some hand dyed BFL and also bought some baby camel down and a bit of dye from her. I got some picked sari silk from Deer Trace Farms, and some nice dyed Romney locks from I think Marsh Meadow Farms. I had to get some unicorn power scour so I found some from Ozark carding mill and while I was there I found some nice pin drafted roving that was a mill end lot (and what do you know it was Romney too) that I had to have. Oh yes a Jacob fleece, and I had to pick up a copy of The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook from Susan’s Fiber Shop and my mother and I got 2 of the blue butterfly peg looms from Susan as well. I also bought 1 lb. of a cvm/romadale fleece that is a gray color I think from…hmmn I’m not sure who it was. A dyed silk hankie and a couple of other things from Stephanie at Lunabud Knits, and from Brenda (I think)at Wooden spinner I bought some locks from a Wesleydale cross. I think that’s about it from the things that I bought at the festival. I think I mentioned that I have been listening to a lot of podcasts lately, but if I didn’t well I have been , one of these days I’ll have to do a list of some of the podcasts I listen to but not today. Anyway one oft the podcasts that I listen to has a challenge called a SPALKAL (think that’s how to spell it ) anyway it stands for SPin ALong Knit ALong , what you are doing is spinning enough yarn to knit a sweater and knitting it. So I don’t know what will come of it but I think I am going to semi follow along with everyone else and try to tackle a handspun sweater, hopefully. (on a side note does anyone know what podcast I’m talking about here) While I don’t have any photos yet……I may have time to take a few but one never knows the way I am Till later Ps I never did get around to taking any photos but I’m going to post this anyway _ 5/23/12 7:30
Well I sure had a lot of fun at the fiber fair at fort Massac; surprisingly one of the best sellers was the inkle looms my Dad and I built some time ago. I really am glad they did sell too, as I do not need 6 or more inkle looms considering how infrequently I get around to weaving on them. I have so much fiber and yarn, so little time. J Let’s see what else did I do that day, I demoed drop spindling and inkle weaving during the day, most of the time I was spindling but I did show the people interested in inkle weaving how it worked. I taught a young lady how to use a drop spindle, bought some fiber, talked to a lot of friends, I didn’t sell as much as I fiber as I’d have liked to and no yarns, but all in all I paid for my gas, the fiber I bought, and food and broke even and I had a blast, so I can’t wait for next year! On the down side I was so busy I totally forgot to take any photos at the fest, so no pictures for the blog but if you look at https://www.facebook.com/SILspinnersandweavers you can see a few photos of the festival. While I was at the fair there was a company that now manufacturing a reproduction of Gearheart circular sock knitting machine and I think I have been bit by the bug, after watching some you tube clips about their product I realized that while there is a bit more involved than I realized I’m still thinking about buying one, and they are not cheap. I have a bit more thinking to do to decide if I really want one and a fair amount of saving to do before I can afford it too. But right now I’m still dreaming about maybe being able to make a pair of socks in one night. Any way the website is www.erlbachergearhart.com Later all. _ I cannot believe I typed a long paragraph or two yesterday that I wanted to save so when I had time on the internet I could blog it and somehow it did not save it. Urggg. Well I’m trying to remember what I said and for some reason I am not remembering all of it. One of the things was about the Southern Illinois Spinners and Weavers (SISAW for short) Fiber Fair that is coming up on May 12 at Fort Massac from 10am to 4 pm. Hopefully there will be no flooding this year, (last year it was canceled due to flooding). I plan to be setting up there this year, hopefully. As I have done too many projects since I blogged last (not that I have finished that many) I don’t think I’ll even try to remember the things that have worked on, just what I’m working on now. At the moment I just took off the loom a woven scarf that is all handspun, the warp is a brown 2-ply and the weft is a grayish singles but I still need the finish the fringe and wash it. And I’m working on trying to make as many batts for the fiber fair, as well as a dozen or more other projects as well. I also just started a set of yellow and white hand towels that I am quite excited about too! Since I don’t think that I’ll have a chance to write for a while I better mention that I plan to go the middle Tennessee fiber festival (I think that’s what they call it anyway ) in Dickson, TN on the Saturday of the fest (the 27th ?) their website is - tnfiberfestival.com So here is some photos of the projects that I am working on.
